The Borough of Centralia The Borough of Centralia has a very unique history. A long time ago, in this town in what was called Pennsylvania a fire was started on accident, and it spread through the mines below the town. Unfortionately, the anthrocite coal has still not stopped burning, exceeding the estimated 100 years that it would burn itself out. Now, it is an empty, barren area, where the old Route 60 was cracked open by heat pressure. Anywhere sinkholes appear, steam still rises from the ground. Few animals live here, but it is a nesting place for some birds such as crows. The only unsafe factor of this place, are the large Carbon dioxide amounts.
